30th Annual Christmas Cookie Tour
December 13, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm
After thirty years and almost 250,000 tasty cookies, the Union Square Christmas Cookie Tour is set to celebrate, big time! The event will kick off on Friday, December 11th at 7pm with the Union Square Park Christmas Tree Lighting and welcome. The Cookie Tour will be held on December 13th from 12noon until 4:30pm and starts at 1401 Hollins Street.
To mark the 30th Annual Christmas Cookie Tour, organizers plan to recruit an unprecedented 30 neighborhood historic homes to host the event with the best cookies, brownies, candies and libations ever.
This year, to add to the holiday magic, the BARCS BFF Waggin will be attending the day of the tour with adoptable animals aboard. Tour goers can stop by the Union Square Park and possibly meet their new best friends and learn how to be part of the exciting things going on at BARCS, Maryland’s largest companion animal shelter. In addition, we will have a commemorative poster and ornament available for purchase at the door.
Event co-chairs, Kristen Johnson and Kathy Filosi Nelson, say the community is excited. “Yes, it’s a lot work, but everybody gets involved,” said Ms. Johnson. “It’s such a fun way to celebrate the holidays and support the neighborhood Association’s projects,” agreed Ms. Nelson.
The now-famous Union Square Christmas Cookie Tour began in 1985. Over the years organizers estimate it has raised thousands of dollars for the Union Square Association. Recently, participating household have greeted more than 300 visitors each season. Visitors are attracted from all over the Washington-Baltimore region and beyond.
The Union Square Association takes on many community challenges. Proceeds from the Union Square Association Christmas Cookie Tour support the Association’s upkeep of the Union Square Park, cleanup campaigns, the Bloom Your Block campaign, the Lots of Art Initiative, the Sunday Sounds in the Park music series, the Three on the Third movie series, and representation of the neighborhood in city issues.
Tickets $20 at the door. Advance registration is now closed. If you ordered tickets in advance, they will be available for pickup on the 13th at 1401 Hollins Street
