You are cordially invited to the Union Square Chamber Music Society May Concert, to be held on Saturday, May 18th at the home of Robert Meyer (1100 Hollins Street, Apt. 7). The concert will begin at 8:30 pm with a reception to follow.
For our final concert of the 2018-2019 season, we are honored to welcome back the Bergamot Quartet for an encore performance. This is truly one of the premier chamber ensembles in Baltimore, and we are very lucky to be able to host them for another outstanding program, which will include the following works:
Voodoo Dolls, Jessie Montgomery
The Wind in High Places, Mvt I Above Sunset Pass, John Luther Adams
A painting in various frames, Sam Torres
Yessori, Soo Yeon Lyuh
String Quartet in D Major, Opus 18 No. 3, Beethoven
Founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 2016, the Bergamot Quartet is dedicated to interpreting the music of living composers. They were recently featured at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage performing George Crumb’s Black Angels, which formed the centerpiece of their Spring 2018 season. They have also made appearances on The Evolution Contemporary Music Series, performing works by Julia Wolfe, Bryce Dessner, Jason Treuting, Gemma Peacocke, and Jessie Montgomery. In the summer of 2018, they attended the Banff Centre’s “Evolution of the String Quartet” program, where they worked with Chaya Czernowin and performed her piece Anea Crystal. During their time at Banff, they also received mentorship from Zosha di Castri, members of the JACK Quartet, and performed with flutist Claire Chase. The quartet was selected to take part in the Quatuor Diotima Academie in central France in April 2019, from which they just returned. Future projects in 2019 include participation in the Next Festival of Emerging Artists, and returning to the Banff Centre. Their 2019-2020 season will include academic residencies at Towson University and the University of Baltimore.

For this concert, we will ask for a contribution of $20 per person/ $10 for students. As this is a community event, we would also like to extend the $10 suggested contribution to all Union Square and Hollins Market residents.
Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served at the reception following the concert. Guests are welcome to BYOB and to invite friends, although all must RSVP at email@example.com. Space is limited, so please make sure to reserve your spots as soon as possible.
We’re very excited to have our first concert in the Hollins Market neighborhood at Robert’s stunning penthouse loft overlooking Baltimore. Please be aware that all guests must go up three flights of stairs for this event, as there is no elevator. There will be a rooftop party after the concert with open-air, panoramic views of the city. We hope you all can come join us for another unforgettable concert experience with the Bergamot Quartet on Saturday, May 18th!
